“In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace” (Colossians 1:6)
Paul recounts two wonderful testimonies about the saints in Colossae and around the world: (1) the gospel is bearing fruits and (2) the gospel is growing everywhere. These are results we also desire in our lives and around us. Jesus told us to bear abiding fruits (John 15). Now, Paul reveals a crucial influence for these successes in their midst: he said they “truly understood God’s grace” when they heard it. They were succeeding as a result of their understanding of the grace of God. In fact, to which gospel have we been called? Paul wrote saying God has “called you to live in the grace of Christ” (Galatians 1:6). In most of his letters, Paul did greet the saints saying “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Galatians 1:3). In one of his departing messages to the believers, he spoke these profound words: “And so now, I entrust you into God’s hands and the message of His grace, which is all that you need to become strong.
All of God’s blessings are imparted through the message of His grace, which He provides as the spiritual inheritance given to all of His holy ones” (Acts 20:32). Not some, not a few, but all of God’s incorruptible blessings are imparted through the message of His grace. Praise Jesus!
Father, continually reveal to us the excellence of Your grace that Your gospel in our midst grow and be evident to all for Your glory. Amen.
