“And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light ‘day,’ and the darkness He called ‘night.’ And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day” (Genesis 1:4-5)
The accounts of Genesis 1 and 2 reveal a whole lot of truths about our Father who has not changed. “Jesus, the same yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). For six consecutive days, during the creation of all things, the Word of God ends with: “And there was evening, and there was morning." The first meaning of this is God’s own faithfulness to His work and He is still working now. Jesus revealed to us: “My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I too am working” (John 5:17). Praise His holy name!
The second message we receive is the mention of an evening and then a morning. An evening can be symbolic of obscurity, weeping or chaos, while the morning is symbolic of brightness, joy or order. In each of those six days, God ordered faithfully the things that were in disorder. Psalm 30:5 says: “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” because He is faithful! This joy comes after. So, we need endurance in the ‘evenings’ of life and God gives it (Isaiah 40:31). As we look at the sun, it reminds us of God’s faithfulness. It rises and sets without our asking because God, its Creator, is still working. So, we must stay faithful too. God is still turning the ‘evenings’ of lives to the ‘mornings’ of His glory.
