Evaluating Others

“Christ’s love has moved me to such extremes. His love has the first and last word in everything we do. Our firm decision is to work from this focused centre: One man died for everyone. That puts everyone in the same boat. He included everyone in his death so that everyone could also be included in his life, a resurrection life, a far better life than people ever lived on their own.” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)

The way we see Jesus will influence the way we evaluate others. Now, there is a focused centre from which we all can see Jesus and see clearly as He does: “One man died for everyone.” Yes! This focused centre can thrive in us from the place of Christ’s love. Hence Paul says: “Christ’s love has moved me to such extremes. His love has the first and last word in everything we do.” So, knowing this focused centre, we should make the same decision the apostles made: “We don’t evaluate people by what they have or how they look” (2 Corinthians 5:16).

Maybe in the past, we looked this way. Even Paul admitted he did too. “We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong….” But now “we certainly don’t look at Him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new.” Hallelujah! Galatians 3:28 puts it this way: “In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ.”
