“And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me. For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!” (John 16:33)

Glorious are the words of our Saviour! “And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in Me will be in you.” Jesus always lived in peace and in harmony with the Father. Even with everything that happened around Him, He was always in peace with God. How needful this peace is for us, and Jesus now says ‘everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me will be in you.’ So, the teachings (not a few) of Christ are powerful to bring us His peace! In truth, it was through them that we received lasting peace with the Father. Hallelujah! His peace also gives ‘great confidence’ when we rest in Him. This fulfils what God spoke through the prophet Isaiah: “I will make your towers of sparkling rubies, your gates of shining gems, and your walls of precious stones. I will teach all your children, and they will enjoy great peace” (Isaiah 54:12-13). Isaiah 26:3 also says: “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” How can we get such thoughts? From the teachings of the Lord Jesus, who is the “Prince of peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Oh “What a glorious God! He gives us salvation over and over, then daily He carries our burdens” (Psalm 68:19)!
