'O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory' (Psalms 63:1-2)
These decisions of the psalmist are inspired from the truth which he declared: "O God You are my God." This was a revelation of who God is to Him. Jesus once asked His disciples a question: "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" They replied: "Well, some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets." They said what others said. Then He asked them: "But who do you say I am?" This time only Simon Peter responded saying: "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:13-16). Jesus proceeded to reveal what would become of Simon Peter.
Acknowledging who God is, the psalmist said: "Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You" presenting his spirit, soul and body, which God is able to preserve blameless (1 Thessalonians 5:23). It didn't matter to him that he was in a "dry and thirsty land." O God You are my God. So, he sang further: Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips" (Psalms 63:3-5). Father, may the revelations of who You are continually spring forth Your life and fire within me. Amen.
