Capacity Giver

"Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen" (Hebrews 13:20-21)

Paul prays a complete prayer for the saints. This prayer makes sense because God brought us His peace through Jesus. Ephesians 2:14 says: “For He Himself is our peace, who has made us both one…” Jesus destroyed the wall of hostility that separated us through His blood, an eternal (not temporal) covenant. Yes, God saved us, not for a short-term, but eternity. Hallelujah! Now, God has placed us under the “great Shepherd of the sheep,” Jesus. Not only is He the great Shepherd, John says He is also the “Good Shepherd.” So, we can trust in His capacity for us.

Since Jesus is our Shepherd, He can equip us “with everything good for doing His will.” Jesus lived successfully so He can! He knows where the pasture is. Jesus said about His sheep: “They will come and go freely and will find good pastures” (John 10:9). He also works in us! Philippians 2:12-13 says: “Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” God is at work in us. Jesus is the capacity giver, the desire giver and the power giver! Praise the Lord.
