“Why have You brought this trouble on Your servant? What have I done to displease You that You put the burden of all these people on me? Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do You tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land You promised on oath to their ancestors? Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me” (Numbers 11:10-14)

Moses felt burdened at the requests of the wailing Israelites. In his troubled state, he asked God several questions, but Moses was beginning to carry a burden that was meant for God alone. God had told Moses: “I have promised to rescue you (Israelites) from your oppression in Egypt. I WILL LEAD you to a land flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:17).

Moses looked at his ability instead of depending on God’s capacity. So, God said to him: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people… I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you…” (Numbers 11:16-17). The Spirit’s power was there all along. God took some from Moses and placed on those men.

Do you feel burdened too? Paul wrote: “Now we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this surpassingly great power is from God and not from us” (2 Corinthians 4:7). Let’s depend on the Lord’s ability alone for He never grows weak or weary.
