“God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; He made us pure and holy, and He freed us from sin. Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:30-31)

The world delights to boast about many things; in its wisdom, its power and its wealth (1 Corinthians 1:26), and we can be caught up in its mindset too. However, we are of a blessed mindset: “God has united you with Christ Jesus” and “for our benefit God made Him (Jesus) to be our wisdom.” So, where then is our boasting? It is in and about the Lord Jesus. This insight is not vague or powerless for our lives for God’s word again says: “Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God” to those called by God to salvation! The power and wisdom is Christ! This wonderful plan of God which the world considers foolish is “wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength” (1 Corinthians 1:25). Hallelujah! Little wonder Christ did say: “The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63). We surely have someone to boast about: Jesus Himself!

May the Lord God continue to reveal these things to us by His Spirit, for His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. And since we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), may we know the wonderful things God has freely given us (1 Corinthians 2:10-12). Amen.
