“The money brought into the temple was not spent for making silver basins, wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or any other articles of gold or silver for the temple of the Lord; it was paid to the workers, who used it to repair the temple. They did not require an accounting from those to whom they gave the money to pay the workers, because they acted with complete honesty” (2 Kings 12:13-15)
We surely can emulate this worthy example of these unnamed supervisors of artisans. Their names are not mentioned, yet they are better known by their attitude of focus and honesty. No one required an accounting from them. Proverbs 11:1 does say: “A false balance and dishonest business practices are extremely offensive to the LORD, but an accurate scale is His delight.” God takes delight in accurate scales or practices. He takes delight when workers get what’s due to them. Leviticus 19:13 says: “Do not make your hired workers wait until the next day to receive their pay.” Again, Deuteronomy 24:15 says: “Never oppress a poor hired man, whether a fellow Israelite or a foreigner living in your town. Pay him his wage each day before sunset, for since he is poor he needs it right away; otherwise he may cry out to the Lord against you and it would be counted as a sin against you.”
In Acts 6, the apostles needed men to supervise a food programme. They looked for men of “honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom” whom they appointed over the programme. Afterwards, God’s Word says: “And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly.” The aroma of honesty!
