“The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. I will build you up again, and you, Virgin Israel, will be rebuilt’” (Jeremiah 31:3-4)

Oh child of God, take comfort in these words of life if your soul is disquieted within you. These are true words that reveal the flawless character of our everlasting Father who knows how to come to His own again and again. He told Israel: “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” He doesn’t love with a flickering love. No. His love draws us close to His unfailing kindness (Romans 2:4). “I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Take no thought that the Lord has forsaken you or forgotten you (Hebrews 13:5-6). He is reminding us: “I will build you up again.” Was there a stumbling like Peter’s, who denied the Lord thrice? Yet, Jesus had said to him before it happened: “But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers” (Luke 22:32).

So, let’s be built up again! God spoke through Jeremiah saying Israel 'will be rebuilt.' Then, He said: “Again, you will take up your timbrels and go out to dance with the joyful. Again, you will plant vineyards on the hills of Samaria; the farmers will plant them and enjoy their fruit” (Jeremiah 31:4-5). What shall be our response to such a grace? This is what the Lord says: “Sing with joy for Jacob; shout for the foremost of the nations. Make your praises heard, and say, ‘Lord, save your people, the remnant of Israel” (Jeremiah 31:7)!
