“O God, defend me from the charges of these merciless, deceitful men. For you are God, my only place of refuge. Why have you tossed me aside? Why must I mourn at the oppression of my enemies? Oh, send out your light and your truth—let them lead me. Let them lead me to your Temple…” (Psalm 43:1-3)
The Passion Translations begins the Psalm with: “God, clear my name. Plead my case…” Sometimes, we face false accusations from men who acted deceitfully and without mercy. But there exists a perfect Judge, who knows how to deliver the righteous. So, we don’t have to mourn at the oppression of these men. Instead, like David, we can pray for two things: “Send out Your light and Your truth.” God’s light shines into every darkness and His truth brings freedom! In Daniel 6, some men deceitfully set laws in order to bring charges against Daniel. The Bible says Daniel knew it and “he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs bedroom, with its windows open toward Jerusalem, and prayed three times a day, just as he always had, giving thanks to his God” (Daniel 6:10). Daniel chose to be led by God’s light and truth, into the presence of God, just like the psalmist did. Psalm 43:4 continues: “There I will go to the altar of God, my exceeding joy, and praise Him with my harp. O God—my God!” There he communed with God His exceeding joy! Truly in the presence of the Lord, “there is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11). Have you been charged wrongly or deceitfully? Peace be still. May the Lord’s light and truth guide and His exceeding joy fill and comfort as we look to His liberation.
