A Perfect Plan

“Let joy be your continual feast. Make your life a prayer. And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Gratitude boosts! Have we observed that when we are joyful, there is a burst of energy? Nehemiah spoke about this to his brethren in a place saying: “Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!” (Nehemiah 8:10). Gratitude always leads to joy! So, God has placed it in His will for us in Christ, a perfect plan. This means gratitude is first something good for us, not to be considered as an option. One reason why gratitude can be a struggle is when we are grateful for the things we get instead of being grateful for the Giver/Owner of all things Himself. The psalmist aptly sang: “I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak His praises” (Psalm 34:1). His gratitude was directed towards God, who is eternal.
In Daniel 6, a law was deliberately passed against Daniel, but he “got down on his knees, prayed, and GAVE THANKS TO HIS GOD, just as he had done before” (Daniel 6:10). Likewise, whenever we remember what Jesus did for us eternally, it surely compels gratitude to come forth and we become joyful irrespective of what is around us. Jesus said: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then IN HIS JOY went and sold all he had and bought that field” (Matthew 13:44). Such a joy he had, grateful for finding this Kingdom of God! Let us give thanks!
