A New Branch

“A small tree will begin to grow from the stump of Jesse. That branch will grow from Jesse’s roots. The Lord’s Spirit will always be with that new king to give him wisdom, understanding, guidance, and power. The Spirit will help him know and respect the Lord. He will find joy in obeying the Lord” (Isaiah 11:1-3)
The Spirit of the Lord brings His encouraging word! A new branch will grow. This prophecy speaks about Jesus and God is bringing it alive to us! The stump is that part that remains in the ground after the tree is cut down. It looks like a state of ‘good for nothing and forgotten.’ Everything around you now may seem to speak hopelessness or deadness, but the Lord says: “A small tree will begin to grow from the stump…” Just like Sarah, Romans 4:19 described the state of her womb as “the lifelessness of Sarah's womb.” The KJV says: “the deadness of Sarah's womb.” Maybe your family line has been cut-off, yet God knows how to give life even to dead things. He knows how to preserve a remnant! He said to Elijah who thought he was alone: “Nevertheless, I have reserved seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him” (1 Kings 19:18).
Lo! “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland” (Isaiah 43:19)! Like the stump, we stay rooted in His soil of grace (2 Peter 3:18)! God “will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair” (Isaiah 61:3). Amen.
