“So now, what can I ever give back to God to repay him for the blessings He’s poured out on me? I will lift up His cup of salvation and praise Him extravagantly for all that He’s done for me. I will fulfil the promise I made to God in the presence of His gathered people” (Psalm 116:12-14)

A teacher and speaker, John Maxwell said: ‘Always make your gratitude greater than your success.’ These are powerful words because gratitude is a great faith attitude that remembers and acknowledges its source, God. Gratitude focuses on the Giver and not the gift (success). Hence, the psalmist thoughtfully asked: “What can I ever give back to God to repay Him for the blessings He’s poured out on me?”

Is there something we can give to the Lord to match what He’s done for us? He found nothing, but said: “I will lift up His cup of salvation and praise Him extravagantly.” The greatest miracle we received is our salvation, from eternal death to eternal life, which God graciously did Himself. When the prophet Habakkuk understood this perspective, even in the uncertain times, he declared: “Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:18). \

So, “now I’ll worship You passionately and bring to You my sacrifice of praise, drenched with thanksgiving! I’ll keep my promise to You, God, in the presence of Your gathered people, just like I said I would. I will worship You here in Your living presence, in the temple in Jerusalem. I will worship and sing hallelujah, for I praise You, Lord!” (Psalm 116:17-19).
