“The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets. From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth. Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before Him, and around Him a tempest rages. He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that He may judge His people” (Psalm 50:1-4)

These words can make one tremble as God our Father called for a vital family meeting. There’s an urgency about this call as He “summons the earth” from everywhere. God said: “Gather all My devoted lovers, My godly ones whose hearts are one with Me— those who have entered into My holy covenant by sacrifices upon the altar” (Psalm 50:5). Over what God does tell the people He wouldn’t be silent? God says: “Why don’t you bring me the sacrifices I desire? Bring me your true and sincere thanks, and show your gratitude by keeping your promises to Me, the Most High” (Psalm 50:14-15).

How precious before the Lord are those who offer true and sincere thanks! And He wants this to be the attitude of all His people and all His creation. Giving of thanks in the life of a God-lover is a recognition that God lives. Giving of thanks also recognises the vastness of God’s abundance to all. Hence, Psalm 116:17 says: “I will offer you a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the LORD.”

Hebrews 13:15 urges us likewise: “And through Him (Jesus) let us offer sacrifices of praise always to God, which is the fruit of the lips giving thanks to His name.” Let’s make thanksgiving a standard in our lives and a continual sacrifice to the Lord.
