“Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. When you eat the labour of your hands, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord. The Lord bless you out of Zion, and may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life” (Psalm 128:1-5)

The fear of the Lord is actually a blessing contrary to how it can be perceived sometimes. ‘Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord.’ This is true because it’s the path towards God’s wisdom. So, there ought not to be anything frightful about this fear of the Lord, but rather an awe and deep respect for the immeasurable magnitude of God and His perfect ways. Proverbs 9:10-12 says in this light: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For through wisdom your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life. If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage.”

Praise the Lord! In simple words, the fear of the Lord does mean the best of my human wisdom is a million times (and more) lower to what may be called the ‘least’ of God’s wisdom. Paul said it this way: “This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength” (1 Corinthians 1:25). Father, teach me daily to love and walk in this blessed fear of who You are! Amen.
